👨💻 Plausible vs Umami
While thinking of ways to make PPop.PH more usable, I was checking the site's analytics to try and see trends (aside from that astronomical spike around the start of BINIfied's ticket selling).

I wanted to check visitor journeys and it was just then that I thought of checking if self-hosted Plausible has added support for funnels (spoiler: they don't). In their documentation, it mentions that the feature exists but I can't see it in my instance. I also can't find any reference that it's limited to the cloud version. I tried updating the version running on my server but still nothing.
A few more searches and I found this discussion about how the team behind Plausible has gone back on their previous statement. Until around 2023 Sep, they said that the self-hosted and cloud versions are "exactly the same" but, looking at the same page now, it's clear that something has changed.
I get it, nothing is really free but promises should have some weight, right? Or at the very least, they should have been transparent about it. If you didn't notice, the GitHub discussion I linked above never got any response from the team. That is just disappointing.
So now, I'm testing Umami (an alternative mentioned in the GitHub discussion) and so far, it seems great. The data I originally wanted is there and very easy to find. It's not much right now but given more time, it would provide the information I need.

Will I be switching over? I don't really have to choose right now since they can run in parallel. However, seeing the Plausible team's handling of negative feedback is pushing me to Umami. Aside from being a lot lighter in resources, they haven't disappointed me yet.
I'll let future Marvin decide. 🤣
